As 2010 nears, we look forward to more opportunities to present the gospel in song and meet many
different people in many walks of life.
So what can you expect from DaySpring this coming year? The same gospel message you have heard in
the past. We are working on old and new songs hoping to see the Lord work through them all. We look forward to seeing old
friends and making new ones.
What can you do for DaySpring? Just keep on praying for our ministry that God would bless it and
that we will have the opportunity to take the gospel to new and unusual places.
Until then, we pray that we will be with you soon. God bless you and yours!
STORIES FROM THE PAST
There are so many stories that I have to share with you about our travels. However,
some are better than others and some are just plain silly. Here is one that many of you may never experience, but I remember
it so well.
We were on our way to a singing date in the great state of Kentucky. This was not your ordinary two
hour trip. It lasted four hours and we ended up at a church deep in the country. I'm almost pretty sure Daniel Boone had never
made a trip there. Yes, we arrived in the middle of the night and slept in our bus until someone showed up to let us in the
church. It was in the dead of winter with no snow. Freezing temeratures made it cold enough to run the bus all night
just to have heat.
Come morning, as with every morning we woke up on the bus, we heard singing coming from the front
of the bus. "Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day, I get a wonderful feeling, everything's going my way."
Yep, sure enough, Dad was waking us up and he didn't sing all that bad! So we hop, or crawl out of bed and venture out
of the bus for a stroll to the church. Dad would always sing when someone had shown up to unlock the door. Our first order
of business was to carry the equipment in and get it set up and do a sound check.
After that, we would look for a place to clean up. We would wash the face, shave the beard, comb
our hair and brush our teeth.
I was in the process of getting cleaned up when I became very aware of the fact that there wasn't
any hot water. Cleaning up still had to be done. So when I was ready to wash my hair, I knew it wasn't going to be pleasant
because I had already shaved and it was COLD!! I begin to splash some water on my hair which I had more of back then, put
the shampoo on and washed vigorously. Unfortunately, not vigorous enough to warm up my head. Rinse time was not any better.
I put my head under the sink of ice cold water and became acutely aware of what it really means to have a real BRAIN FREEZE!!
I quickly grabbed my towel and dried it as fast as I could. My head was still freezing cold no matter what I did. Well, I
did get over it eventually, and we sang for the people of that little church.
We've never charged churches for singing at their church. We just depended on the Lord to provide
a love offering. What we didn't get at one church, He would usually make up for it at another church. This just happened
to be a church that took up two offerings. One for a ministry in Texas and one for the singing group.
With our big gas guzzling bus and our trek of four hours away from home, they proudly gave us
a whole $14.00 in the offering plate!
"JUST ANOTHER MILE"
"Just Another Mile" has been well received by all who have heard it and purchased it. The response
to it has been great and God has been blessing the messages of each song. Sometimes, it is hard to get used to new songs,
but actually they are not all new. "Sheltered in the Arms of God", "Going Home" and "Blood Bought"
have all been around for quite a while.
"Sheltered" was written by Dottie Rambo and Governor Jimmie Davis many years ago
and is still one of the most recognized songs in gospel music today. It was a week after the passing of Dottie Rambo
that we recorded this great song. An article was then written in The Singing News Magazine on the song the next month.
Timing is everything in gospel music today. However, we really didn't plan it that way.
"Going Home" has been sung at many of the Gaither Homecoming events. Bill and
Gloria Gaither wrote that song many years ago as well. It is still and will continue to be a song that blesses hearts
because it reminds us of the day we will all go home to be with Jesus. What a glorious day that will be!
"Blood Bought" was a song that we recorded back in the 80's. However, it was probably
written much earlier than that. Carroll McGruder of The McGruders wrote that song many years back and as far as we are
concerned, it is still a vital song for the church today. All of us who are Christians know that God sent His Son, Jesus,
to the cross of Calvary to redeem us through His blood. The Bible even tells us that "without the shedding of
blood, there is no remission of sins". What a blessing this song has been to us and many others down throught the
years!
We like to record new songs, as well as, old songs. We must remember, that at one time or another,
all of the songs we sing today were new songs. The new songs will soon become old songs and their messages will never change.
